Fairfax est une ville américaine indépendante située au nord du Commonwealth de Virginie formant une Enclave au sein du Comté de Fairfax tout en étant le siège de ce comté. La population de la ville était estimée en 2005 à 22.407 habitants.
Histoire
La ville a été fondée au XVIII
e siècle et nommée en
1805 Providence. Elle a été renommée en
1874 Fairfax. En
1904 un tramway est construit reliant la ville de Fairfax à Washington.
Géographie
Fairfax est située au nord de la
Virginie, dans l'aire métroplitaine de Washington. L'intersection de l'U.S. Route 50 et de l'U.S. Route 29 se trouve dans Fairfax alors que l'
Interstate 66 passe près de la ville.
