Ghostface Killah, né Dennis Coles le 9 mai 1970, est un rappeur américain membre du Wu-Tang Clan. Il est né et a grandi dans le borough de Staten Island à New York, surnommé Shaolin dans les albums du crew.
Biographie
Ghostface Killah a commencé sa carrière avec le
Wu-Tang Clan,après leur succès commercial et populaire au début des
Années 1990 avec Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Il entame sa carrière solo, comme ses compères. Sa première apparition solo est sur l'album de
Raekwon, membre du
Wu-Tang Clan,
Only Built 4 Cuban Linx en
1995. Puis on le retrouve sur les bandes originales de Sunset Park et
Spoof Movie, le titre de la B.O. de
Spoof Movie apparait sur son premier album.
Iron Man
Son premier album sortie en
1996 chez Epic Records, intitulé
Iron Man qui fut bien accueilli dans le milieu du
hip hop, avec de bonne critique, et notamment dans les
charts américains, il commence à la deuxième place du
Billboard 200. L'album est remplie de featuring et il y a seulement deux titres sans collaboration. On retrouve ses compères du
Wu-Tang Clan, comme
Raekwon (sur 13 titres),
Cappadonna,
Inspectah Deck,
U-God... Et d'autres aristes comme Mary J. Blidge, The Force M.D.s., The Delfonics et les
Jackson 5. Sur cet album,
RZA produit la plupart des titres.
Supreme Clientele
Il revient en
2000, avec
Supreme Clentele. L'album ses vendu a plus de 700.000 exemplaires et est considéré comme son meilleurs album et l'un des meilleurs album solo du
Wu-Tang Clan. L'album est toujours produit par
RZA et comporte beaucoup de featuring. L'album comporte un sketch clashant
50 Cent ("Clyde Smith").
Bulletproof Wallets
Un an après, son second album sort
Bulletproof Wallets. L'album se dirige vers d'autre genre musicale que le
Rap comme le
R&B. L'album n'a pas une superbe critique est a du mal à se vendre.
Ghostface reproche à sa maison de disques, le manque de vente du disque. Il quitte tout de suite Epic Records, et signe chez
Def Jam.
En 2003, il sort une compilation intitulé Shaolin's Finest, qui comporte ses meilleurs titres de ses albums sorti chez Epic Records.
The Pretty Toney Album
Trois ans, après sa signature chez
Def Jam, il sort son quatrième album
The Pretty Toney Album. Pour cet opus, il change son pseudonyme de
Ghostface Killah en
Ghostface, ce fut son seul album avec se pseudo. L'album est populaire dans les clubs et dans les
charts, grâce à deux titres "Tush" (feat.
Missy Elliott) et "Run" (feat.
Jadakiss).
Theodore Unit
Le
Theodore Unit est un collectif de rappeurs de Staten Island, la plus part des membres ont un lien avec le
Wu-Tang Clan. C'est en
2001, qu' il fonde le
Theodore Unit, sur le titre "Theodore" en featuring avec Trife Da God et Twiz qui feront parti du groupe. En
2004, leur premier album sort
718. Puis en
2005,
Ghost et Trife Da God sorte un album en collaboration nommé Put It On The Line sur son label Starks Enterprises.

Raekwon clashe
The Notorious B.I.G. sur le sketch "Shark Niggaz (Biters)" sur l'album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..., dans lequel une association est en colère fesant référence à
Bad Boy Records qui utilisent des style de pochette d'autres rappeurs pour les mettre sur les siens, comme
Nas (
Illmatic) sur laquelle se présente un portrait de l'artiste étant enfant, qui a été repris par
The Notorious B.I.G. pour
Ready to Die. En dépit de se conflit, Biggie adorée le Wu-Tang, et apparée en featuring avec des artistes commes
Method Man et
RZA. Plus tard, des rappeurs comme Nas et Method Man on réagient sur cette révalité, le premier enregistre un titre confirment les tension entre Biggie,
Ghost et Raekwon, le deuxième dit que Raekwon et
Ghostface "n'aime pas tout le monde".
50 Cent
Ghost a également eu une rivalité avec
50 Cent, tout commence en fin
1999 quand Fifty enregistre "How to Rob (An Industry Nigga)" où il insulte plusieurs rappeurs, comme
Ghost, Raekwon ou encore RZA. Peu de temps après l'enregistrement, Ghostface, Superb, Gavin West et d'autres rappeurs ont été accusées d'avoir attaquer Fifty à Hot 97. Ghost répond en
2000 avec un sketch nommé "Clyde Smith", il présente 50 entrain de parler sur son comportement et de sa manière d'attirer l'attention. En 2007, 50 Cent refait parler de lui au cours d'une interview à Spin magazine, il affirme que Ghostface n'a pas écrit les textes du magnifique album
Supreme Clientele, mais que c'est Superb qui l'a écrit. Et dit que le succé du Wu-Tang est terminé, car il n'arrive pas à vendre. Dans un entretien avec Windows Media Players Musique, Ghost, Perb et Raekwon ont répondu à Fifty, et affirme que Perb n'a pas écrit l'album.
Mase
Il y a également eu une querelle entre Ghost et
Mase. Dans la piste "Malcolm", il est mentioné qu'il a éclaté la machoire de Mase. Lors d'un concert en
Jamaïque, Mase brûle un drpeau du Wu-Tang puis Ghost accompagné de Queens apparuent et se tapent avec Mase.
